Physician, sociologist, and communication advocate Monalyn Labitigan Zouzias has published her debut book, Mastering Meaningful Communication, now available through Barnes & Noble and Amazon. Written under the pen name Raquel L. Zia, the book offers a clear, compassionate, and practical guide to improving how we connect with one another in everyday life. Drawing on her background in sociology and medicine, Zouzias explores how simple communication shifts can lead to more authentic, respectful, and empathetic relationships.
Mastering Meaningful Communication is already gaining critical acclaim, including recognition from readers, a blogger, publishers, and a featured interview with News365. The book currently holds a strong 5-star rating on Amazon, where readers praise its warmth, accessibility, and real-life usefulness.
News365 called it “a must-read for anyone who interacts with others—whether in business, friendships, or personal relationships. Communication is vital: done poorly, it creates misunderstandings and hurt feelings; done well, it builds bridges, opens doors and hearts, and forges lasting connections. Zouzias’s book is both accessible to the everyday reader and thoughtful enough to satisfy anyone seeking a deeper understanding of human nature and the secrets of meaningful communication.”
C. S. Kleinman, founder of Wandolini™ and StoryJoy™ Publishing, shared: “Monalyn Labitigan Zouzias’s book is that rare gem that’s both heartfelt and highly practical. It’s not just a guide to communication—it’s a guide to being human with one another.”

Why This Book Matters
Mastering Meaningful Communication is a timely reminder that connection is both an art and a skill—one increasingly lost in today’s reactive, distracted world. “People are craving to be seen and heard, but often talk past each other,” Monalyn Labitigan Zouzias told News365. “This book offers tools to change that—to listen better, speak more clearly, and build trust.” Designed for everyone from professionals to couples, it’s already receiving 5-star reviews for its clarity, insight, and real-life usefulness across all areas of life.
Manika Zeri shares, “Helpful in streamlining communication with all in your life including family (children and partner), coworkers, and friends. A must-read for everyone to help strengthen all these important relationships.”
Luz Plasencia highlights the book’s practicality: “The author uses real-life examples that most of us encounter with co-workers, partners, and children. I love the 21-day challenge which helps you put into practice what you’ve learned.”
AM Martin notes its value across generations: “A very useful book which I will share with my young adult children, as it gives tools on how to master one of the most important life skills—communication. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!”
About the Author
Behind the pen name Raquel L. Zia is Monalyn Labitigan Zouzias, a physician with a background in sociology from New York University. Raised in New York after immigrating from the Philippines, Zouzias grew up immersed in cultural diversity and linguistic richness—speaking Tagalog and English and learning Spanish and Greek.
Her background in sociology gave her a deep interest in human connection—an interest that stood in stark contrast to the lack of communication training she encountered in medical school, where she realized that even the most vital knowledge is useless if it can’t be shared effectively.
Zouzias began developing her own communication skills and quickly noticed dramatic improvements—not only in patient care but in her personal life, too.
“The ability to pause before reacting changed everything for me,” she says. “It’s such a small act, but it gives us room to respond with clarity instead of emotion. That pause is a game-changer.”
