Tony-Nominated Producer James Simon to Bring "The Marriage of Alice B Toklas by Gertrude Stein" to 2025 Edinburgh Fringe

Critically Acclaimed Comedy to Debut at Gilded Balloon with Original New York Cast Members

NEW YORK CITY, NY / ACCESS Newswire / July 23, 2025 / Tony Award-nominated producer James Simon is set to bring the critically acclaimed play The Marriage of Alice B Toklas by Gertrude Stein to the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, running July 29 through August 24 at the Dram, Gilded Balloon Patter House, Chambers Street.

The play, written and directed by Edward Einhorn and produced in partnership with Untitled Theater Company No. 61, was previously a New York Times Critics' Pick and enjoyed a successful run at London's Jermyn Street Theatre in 2022.

Simon, who earned a 2025 Tony nomination for his work on the Broadway hit Operation: Mincemeat, is bringing his signature mix of thoughtful storytelling and theatrical fun to the Fringe.

"I can't wait for new audiences to see this play," said Simon. "It covers so much ground-Jewish celebrations, artistic genius, what it meant to be in love then and why it still matters now. But most importantly, it's just a really fun, laugh-out-loud show. I think the world really needs that right now."

A fast-paced, imaginative comedy, The Marriage of Alice B Toklas by Gertrude Stein follows the iconic literary couple as they attempt to get married in pre-occupied Paris. Denied the legal right, they stage a symbolic ceremony with an unforgettable guest list that includes Hemingway, Picasso, Joyce, and more - all played by four versatile actors. Three original cast members from the New York production return for the Edinburgh run.

The show blends history, romance, and comedy into one sharply written, deeply human, and wildly entertaining piece.
